He wasa graduate of Michigan Tech Class of 1949. He located to Escanaba where he worked as a design engineer for the Michigan Department of Transportation for 35 years. Leo (son of the former Senator Philip and Elsie Rahoi) carried on a legacy of political involvement. He served on the Escanaba City Council and was instrumental in the construction of our current city hall and library. A socialist at heart, Leo felt strongly that this country needed Universal Healthcare for ALL. He aligned himself with the "working class" and supported causes that championed the underdog! A once avid hunter and fisherman, in his later years, he developed a reverence for wild things.
Leo was survived by: a daughter, Cynthia Plouff (Don); six grandchildren, including Kelly Kurpier; as well as numerous great-grandchildren and even a few great-great-grandchildren; a brother, Urban Rahoi (age 101); and sisters, Phylis Ewig (age 95), and Evelyn Peterson (age 90).
He was preceded in death by his former wife of 56 years, Ruby (Couveau) Rahoi (2012); two daughters, Lynette Lois Rahoi (1980), and Sandra Lee Vietzke (Tom) (2018); and a brother, Philip Rahoi.
A special note of appreciation to Leo's friends who were vigilant and loving throughout his final years and days. He loved to tease, and you lovingly gave it right back at him. His parting advice to the world: "Vote BLUE in November!"
