Abel Johnson an old resident of the town, passed away May 25th, after a long illness, although not confined to his bed but about two weeks. He was born in Dover, December 12, 1820, son of Moses and Ruth (Dowley) Johnson and has always lived in town. He was twice married his last wife being Mrs. Mary (Lowe) Ellis who still survives him. Mr. Johnson was a kind and obliging neighbor, a loving husband and friend. Much sympathy is felt for his wife in her bereavement. The funeral was held Wednesday at 12 o'clock at the house, Rev. Mr. Reigel officiating. Burial in village cemetery. Those from out of town were Mr. Roswell Lowe from Bellows Falls, a brother of Mrs. Johnson and A. D. Fessenden from Brattleboro.
