Mr. Owen Vernon Crosby, 87, passed away late Wednesday morning, August 8, 2007, at his residence surrounded by his family and friends.

Born in Wayne County, he had lived in Pierce County for most of his life. He was a farmer and had also owned and operated Crosby Appliance and Furniture. Mr. Crosby was a World War II veteran and was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the American Legion. He was also a member of the Blackshear Lions Club and the Bristol Baptist Church where he served as a deacon. Mr. Crosby was a son of the late Elder Barney & Martha Gill Crosby and was also preceded in death by a son, Michael Vernon Crosby; four sisters and two brothers.

Survivors are his wife of 64 years, Beatrice Crump Crosby of Mershon; four daughters and 3 sons-n-law, Jean & Rev. Jack Sinclair, Eunice & Howard Jones all of Mershon, Carolyn Dixon of Bristol and Sue & Michael Carter of Blackshear; three sons and daughters-n-law, Charles & Wanda Crosby of Bristol and Frank & Pat Crosby and Ray & Karen Crosby all of Mershon; two brothers and sisters-n-law, J. T. & Catherine Crosby and Donald & Maudell Crosby all of Blackshear; 18 grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren and several nieces, nephews & other relatives.

Funeral services for Mr. Crosby will be held Friday afternoon, August 10, 2007, at 2:30 from the Bristol Baptist Church.

Interment will be in the Bristol Cemetery.

Visitation for Mr. Crosby will be held Thursday evening from 6 until 9 at the funeral home.

Mr. Crosby will lay in state at the church one hour prior to the service.

Active pallbearers will be grandsons, Lon Sinclair, Jerome Jones, Sidney Dixon, Andy Crosby, Josh Carter, Matt Crosby, Slade Dixon and Jake Carter.

Honorary pallbearers will be the rest of Mr. Crosby's grandchildren.

Memorial may be made to the Bristol Baptist Church, 3920 Bill Kimmons Rd., Bristol, GA 31518.
