Where to start..there is so much to share about My Dad Mario Cianflone. First, he was definitely the hardest working person I have ever known. He was proud to be an American citizen after migrating to America as a young man with his Mother and Sister and living with his Aunt who he considered to be his second Mother after his own Mother passed away. His own Father Joseph passed away when my Father was only 4 years old. He would always tell me that he remembered when they were dressing his Father for his funeral. His Mother went on to raise my Father, his Sister and Brother alone. My Dad met my Mom and asked for her hand in marriage after only 3 weeks. He met my Mom when she was selling movie tickets at her family's movie theater in a little city in Italy..he says he fell instantly in love with her and then tried to impress her by purchasing movie tickets for all the local kids..my Mom claims she wasn't impressed and called him a "crazy American." And yet they married 5 weeks after meeting!
Dad was a tailor in his younger years and then went to work for Universal Studios where he eventually became the head gardener/landscaper for Amblin Entertainment and specifically for Steven Spielberg. My Dad's likeness was used in Spielberg's movie "A.I." as the robot gardener that was destroyed during the Flesh Fair scene..he got the biggest kick out of that..my Mom..not so much!! LOL!! He took great pride in his job, the union he belonged to and all his friends from Universal Studios.
My Dad was also a die-hard L.A. Dodgers fan and if he wasn't listening to a game via his transistor radio, or watching a game on TV, then he was sneaking us off to a Dodger game when he got home from work!! My Dad loved to play the game "Trouble" and we called him "General Trouble!" He took no prisoners! (His words!) My Dad loved his family. He loved me and I felt that love my whole life!! He adored my sons/his grandsons. He loved my husband/his buddy! And the last day of his life, my husband never left his side and kept telling him that it was OK to go..that he would take care of us all. My Father died of complications due to Vascular Dementia and Heart Failure.
