Lieutenant The Honorable John Patrick Bowes-Lyon, Master of Glamis, was the eldest son of Patrick Bowes-Lyon, 15th Earl of Strathmore and Kinghorne, and his wife, Lady Dorothy Osborne, daughter of George Godolphin Osborne, 10th Duke of Leeds and Lady Katherine Frances Lambton. He was a nephew of Queen Elizabeth, the Queen Mother, and a first cousin of Queen Elizabeth II.

He served in the 2nd Battalion, Scots Guards, and died in the Halfaya Pass in battle.
