LlONG-TIME TEACHER HERE, FREDERICK MAHONEY DIES
Frederick C. Mahoney, 92, a native of Mt. Etna, Died at 2:30 p.m. Friday at St George Hospital in Cincinnati. He had been in failing health since Christmas of last year.
He was born at at Mt. Etna Nov 24, 1878, to Thomas E. and Mary E. Coulter Mahoney. His marriage was to Opal Beghtel at Majenica in 1904. Mrs Mahoney died in 1966.
Surviving are three daughters, Mrs. Thomas D. (Margaret) McCarty, Muncie; Mrs Charles (Jean) White, Carmel, and Miss Muriel Mahoney. South Bend, Ohio, with whom Mr Mahoney had resided for the last five years. Other survivors are five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Mr Mahoney was the last of his family.
He was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church in Warsaw, and had been a manual training instructor with the public schools in Huntington for 40 years, and a teacher for 47 years. He first taught school at Stringtown from 1899 to 1900, and then at Paul School from 1900 to 1901, at the Majenica grade school in 1901-02, and at Lancaster High School in 1903-07. He started teaching in the Huntington Schools in 1907, and retired in 1946, He served as a substitute teacher until 1948, and moved from Huntington in 1949, to live in the Warsaw area. He was a 1903 graduate of Valparaiso. Friends may call at the Bailey Mortuary after 4 p.m. Monday and services will be held there at 2 p.m. Tuesday with Rev. W. W. Kennell officiating. Burial will be in Lancaster Cemetery.
