COWAN, JR., WALTER , "WALLY" GREAVES 65, a loving husband and father was killed by a drunk driver in Landrum, SC on August 7, 2007.

Son of Walter Greaves Cowan and the late Margaret Martinez Cowan, Wally graduated from Jesuit High School, class of 1959 and Loyola University where he obtained his Bachelor of Business Administration and Juris Doctorate degrees. He was a member of Beggars Fraternity at Loyola. He served in the U.S. Army, obtained the rank of Captain as a JAG officer. He was corporate counsel of Lykes Corporation and then J.C. Penney.

A native New Orleanian, Wally also lived in Boulder, CO, Dallas, TX and most recently Landrum, SC.

He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Nancy Mills Cowan and his four daughters, Kelly C. Ellis (Bill) and Jonte C. Warren (West), both of New Orleans, Renee C. Aguiare (David) of Hendersonville, TN and Margaret C. Freeman (Geremy) of Tuscaloosa, AL. Also survived by his brother William Douglas Cowan, of Albuquerque, NM and 11 grandchildren. Wally and Nancy recently retired to the mountains of South Carolina. He enjoyed jogging with friends, renovating homes, singing in church choirs and performing with a local folk group, "The Cottage Singers."

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Funeral Mass at Holy Name of Jesus Catholic Church, 6367 St. Charles Ave. on Monday, August 13 at NOON with visitation from 10:00 AM to NOON. Interment in Metairie Cemetery. Donations to Jesuit High School, 4133 Banks St., NOLA 70119 or MADD, 3300 Canal St, NOLA 70119 preferred. Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home New Orleans, LA504-486-6331
