Charles (Chuck) Vincent Giamalvo, 77, died peacefully with wife, Barbara, by his side, on Saturday, April 18, 2020.
Chuck was born on July 23, 1942, in Kansas City, MO to Charles & Irene (Jackson) Giamalvo. He attended Holy Rosary Catholic Grade School, Redemptorist Catholic High School, and Kansas State University. (EMAW!)
Foreshadowing Chuck's later career, he enlisted in the Air Force & worked in the accounting dept., in TX. He worked for the Ford Motor Company before founding Inventory Accounting Service (IAS) with Barbara. IAS began as an inventory service for grocery stores, covering much of the Midwest. In time, IAS began contracting with the DoD & later transitioned to equipment leasing, mainly washers & dryers, for the last 30 years.
Chuck was a long-time motorcycle owner who enjoyed riding with family & friends, all over the Midwest and beyond.
Songwriting was an important part of Chuck's life. Even though he didn't get serious about it until the mid-80s, he jotted down poems & lyrics long before that. Whenever inspiration struck, he had to get it down on paper, cocktail napkins or whatever was close by. He was a long-time member of Kansas City Songwriters Circle & Nashville Songwriters Association International (NSAI). He was the NSAI coordinator for Missouri, for 5 years. He visited Nashville, to study songwriting, several times. After moving to the Phoenix AZ area, in 1999, his songwriting and performing continued, to include music festivals all over the world. His recording studio at "Barbara's Place", brought him immense joy. While songwriting was Chuck's favorite part of music, he enjoyed performing on stage with Barbara and friends.
In addition to traveling for music, Chuck enjoyed traveling to experience other cultures. He visited 6 of the 7 continents and nearly all 50 states. He often traveled with Barbara, in the comfort of their home on wheels. His favorite place was Las Vegas, especially in June, when he would enter the World Series of Poker.
Over the past 9 years, Chuck successfully battled a number of health issues (diabetes, strokes, heart attacks, multiple cancers, etc), but his COPD and lung cancer ultimately took him home.
Chuck was a faithful Catholic, attending weekly Mass or watching on TV when his health declined & praying the rosary, daily. He was a loving friend, brother, husband, father, & an awesome PawPaw. He will be missed greatly.
Chuck was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Bob Giamalvo. He is survived by the love of his life, Barbara (Wisely) Giamalvo; daughters, Maggie Giamalvo (Jeff O'Neal) and Kate Jimenez (Ruben); grandsons, Dominic and Xavier Jimenez; sisters, Betty Hill (Rick) and Barbara Blum; sister-in-law, Chris Giamalvo,and several nieces and nephews.
There will be a private funeral at St Andrew the Apostle Catholic Church, in Gladstone MO, on Wednesday, April 29, 2020, at 11:00am. Celebrations of life will take place in Kansas City & Phoenix, later in the year.
