Guy was 4 years old when his mother died. His father placed him (as well as his siblings) in orphanages all over the state of California. In the late 1880s, Guy and his brother, Thomas Leon Bedford, ran a restaurant together in Los Angeles. By the 1890s, he realized his dream of becoming an artist.
Guy was married to Maud Violet Tuttle in 1893. To this union, a daughter, Marvel Vivian Bedford, was born.
In October of 1913, Guy went on a hunting trip with his friends in the Olympic Mountains of Washington state when he had a heart attack and died. His death certificate stated he was buried in Seattle, but did not state a particular cemetery.
