He went to Idaho with his parents in 1908 and lived there until 1954 when he moved to Ridge Crest, California. He attended high school in Twin Falls, Idaho and in Pomona, California. In early life he was an automobile and airplane mechanic and flight instructor. In 1941 and 1942 he was manager of the Twin Falls municipal Airport. He then moved to Pocatello where he taught a class in aviation mechanics for the Army. After the war he went to work in the Navy's gun lining plant and in 1954 was transferred to the Naval Ordnance Test Station at China Lake.
