The family Bible of Robert McGlaughlin Senior, has been placed in trust to the Adams County Historical Society, Gettysburg, Pa. Lists his children as Thomas McGlaughlin born 29 July 1801; William McGlaughlin born 22 Aug. 1803; Robert McGlaughlin born 25 Feb. 1805; Rachel Mary McGlaughlin born 3 Feb. 1807; and Elizabeth Adaline McGlaughlin born 4 Apr. 1809. The service records of Robert McGlaughlin Senior and his service to the Continental Army in the War of the Revolution are also on file at the Adams county Historical Society. Served with the Second Regiment of the Second Pennsylvania Line, Colonel Walter Stewart Commanding.

Robert McGlaughlin Senior, born Adams County, Pennsylvania, circa 2 Feb 1754. Served as a private, in the PA. Continental Army, in the war of the Revolution from April or May 1777 till 1780. Served with the Second Regiment of the Second Pennsylvania Line, Commanded by Colonel Walter Stewart, in the Company of Captain Stoy, and afterwards by Captain Coby, was in the Battle of Monmouth and in several skirmishes, and was taken prisoner at Fort Washington in New York along the Harlem River. Robert obtained a certificate of pension from the war office, number S- 4.015, dated the 21st day of Oct 1818, at which time he was living in Hamiltonban Township, and stated he was born in the County of Adams. His pension payments were eight dollars a month.

The vital family records of Robert McGlaughlin Sr. and his wife Margaret McGlaughlin, the names of children, and dates of birth, are documented in three forms. The first, being the Family Bible of Robert McGlaughlin Sr. The second, document filed the 14th day of November 1820 to the Adams County Orphan's Court, which among other items discussed, Robert stated he was about sixty six years old, gave his occupation as a day laborer, and gave the following information on his children, sons William aged seventeen was bound as an apprentice to a shoemaker, Robert aged fifteen years and six months also bound as an apprentice to a shoemaker, daughters Elizabeth aged twelve years, Rachel aged about ten years. The third family record is Revolutionary War records and Pension Records. I filed this information, copies of documents, along with pictures of the family of John Calvin McGlaughlin son of Robert, the grandson of Robert Sr., with the Adams County Historical Society, in 2003. Note: that the Pension request S. 40. 146, of Robert Sr. had the last name spelled McLaughin, it is spelled McGlaughlin in all other records.
