The private family funeral service for Betty Jane Adolphsen, 95, of Aberdeen, SD, will be 10:30am, Thursday, April 23, 2020, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, with Pastor Josiah Fitch officiating. You can watch the livestream of the service by following the link under her picture on her online obituary. Burial at Sunset Memorial Gardens. Betty died Sunday, April 19, 2020, at Angelhaus North in Aberdeen.

Visitation will be from 3:00-7:00pm, Wednesday, at Spitzer-Miller Funeral Home, 1111 South Main Street.

Betty Jane Schulz was born March 7, 1925, to Herman and Mary (Stock) Schulz on the family farm in Red Iron Township, Marshall County. Betty was baptized in the Good Will Lutheran Church, Sisseton, SD. She grew up on the farm and helped with the livestock and field work. Betty attended school in the area and was valedictorian of her 8th grade class. She joined the Lutheran Church in Lake City, SD, and was confirmed there. After finishing her education, Betty moved to Sisseton.

On May 28, 1949, Betty was united in marriage to Delmer Adolphsen in Sisseton, SD. Betty worked for Northwestern Bell, which later became US West and then Quest. She retired in 1981, after 35 years with the company. Delmer passed away on June 3, 2004.

Betty was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Aberdeen. She was also a member of Telephone Pioneers and Communication Workers of America. Betty and Delmer bought a park home in Apache Junction, AZ, and spent winters there for 20 years. Betty loved to spend time with her family and especially enjoyed her grandchildren.

Grateful for having shared Betty’s life are her daughters: Roberta Adolphsen and Sheryl (David) Arlt, both of Aberdeen; her grandchildren: Shane (Page) Arlt, Christopher (Becky) Arlt, and Nichole Arlt; her great grandchildren Madison, Shane, Conner, Julien and Sebastien; and many loving nieces and nephews.

Preceding Betty in death are her husband: Delmer Adolphsen; her parents: Herman and Mary Schulz; and her siblings: George Schulz, Elizabeth Palm, Leonard Schulz and Delores Medenwald.
