Young Carroll inherited a large fortune from his grandfather's estate. His mother was a Miss Phelps, daughter of the late Royal Phelps, of New York.

John Lee Carroll, Jr.
The body of John Lee Carroll, Jr., who died July 13 at Stronelaieg, Inverness, Scotland, was brought to Baltimore yesterday for burial and removed to the undertaking establishment of Henry W. Jenkins & Sons.
Relatives of Mr. Carroll arrived to attend the burial. In the party were ex-Gov. and Mrs. John Lee Carrol I, Miss Carroll, Mr. and Mrs. Royal Phelps Carroll, Mrs. Charles Carroll and sister and Harper Carroll.
The late Mr. Carroll was the fourth son of ex-Governor Carroll and belonged to the fifth generation of the Carroll family of Maryland. The funeral services will be held today. A mass of requiem will be celebrated at the Cathedral by Rev. Thomas S. Lee, pastor of St. Matthew's Church, Washington. The burial will be in the family lot at Bonnie Brae Cemetery.
