Edward was born in Heckinghausen to A. E., Sr., and Maria Magdalena (Edelhoff) Bischofsberger. His birth (and those of his siblings) were recorded in Barmen. Edward immigrated in 1866. His brother, Julius Bischofsberger, also immigrated and settled in Baxter Springs, Kansas (Memorial #26993518).

Edward had been married in Prussia and had a son, Anton, born in Barmen ca. 1859. No evidence that Anton or his mother immigrated. Edward's 1920 estate file said that Anton had not been heard from in several years. One Anton died in Portland 25 Nov 1925; another Anton (1855-1932; FindAGrave Memorial 215531884) died in Chicago, Illinois, where some of Edward's descendants were living???

Edward married ca. 1868 second to Maria Paulina Emilie Husemeyer, daughter of Christoph Dietrich and Rosalie (Von Reinwald) Husemeyer. She may have died from complications of childbirth after her sixth child, Arnold, was born in Kansas City in December 1875.

Edward married ca. 1878 third to Mary Kinzle. No children. She is buried next to Edward. Pauline's burial is in Mount Saint Mary's Cemetery, also in Kansas City (FindAGrave Memorial: 210447170 ).

Five years before he died, Edward married May 24, 1915, in Kansas City to a neighbor widow, Mrs. Charlotte Hursig; she is buried with her first husband.
