Public official. After serving as an assistant to the Clerk of Vermont's U.S. District Court, in 1923 she was appointed Deputy United States Marshal for Vermont, one if the first women to serve as a Deputy Marshal. She served for more than 40 years, and as the marshal's office expanded she rose to the position of Chief Deputy. When she retired in 1966, she was the only female Chief Deputy Marshal in the United States.
