ADRIAN ELWOOD KIRKSEY
AUGUST 10, 1937 ~ AUGUST 12, 2007

A great man died today, he wasn't a world leader or a famous doctor, a war hero or a famous sports figure. He was no business tycoon and you would never see his name in the financial pages. He was one of the greatest men that ever lived. He was our father. I guess you might think he was a person who was never interested in getting credit or receiving honors. Opera wasn't his cup of tea. He liked Country music, mowing his grass, tossing the ball to his beautiful friend, his black lab Jimbo. He didn't own a tuxedo and I'm sure he never tasted Cavier. He did corny things like paying his bills on time, going to church on Sundays and serving as an officer in the P.T.A.. He helped kids with their homework and went grocery shopping with his wife on Thursday nights. Dad enjoyed simple things like picnics, golf and taking his sons fishing or hunting. Tonight is my first without him and I don't know what to do with myself so I thought I would pen my thoughts and say I am sorry now for the times I didn't show him the proper respect, but I am grateful for a lot of other things.
We are thankful that God let us have our father for all these years and we are happy that we were lucky enough to let him know how much we loved him. A great man died with the peace and fulfillment to know that he was loved and admired as a husband, father, brother, a son and grandfather. I wonder how many children can say a great man died today and I miss him with all my heart.
Mr. Kirksey was a member of Klondike Baptist Church, a retired colonel with The Escambia County Sheriff's Office with 35 years service. He was a 1957 graduate of Tate High School and a 1982 graduate of The University of Virginia with a Masters Degree, and a 1982 graduate of The FBI Academy. He was a veteran serving with the U.S. Navy.
