Edward Griffiths was born in Liverpool, England in 1880. His father Edward Sr. was son of Shropshire farmer John Griffiths. His mother, Jane Moffat daughter of John Moffat and Mary Burnie, from Annan, Dumfries-shire, Scotland.

In 1881 Edward aged 7 months resided with his family at 35 Smollet Street in West Derby, part of the metropolitan area of Liverpool. His father had lived in the area for many years and worked as a shop man. Jane's family had businesses in Annan and her brother William who had migrated to Liverpool worked in that sector.

Edwards eldest sibling, Mary Jane's mother was Annie Higton Jones. His father a widower when he married Jane Moffat. Jane's children were John Robert Moffat Griffiths, Agnes Amelia Griffiths and Edward being the youngest.

The Griffiths family migrated to Canada in 1882. Sadly both parents died within two years of their arrival. Edward in 1883 the result of an accident and Jane in 1884 of consumption. They are buried at the Hillcrest Cemetery in Parry Sound, Ontario. The four children orphaned in Canada were sent to different homes in the Parry Sound area. A very sad situation but at least they grew up knowing each other.

Edward at age 11 in 1891, was living was living with the Beaumont family in Parry Sound. By 1901 he was living at the home of his eldest sibling Mary Jane who was now married to Oliver J. Crockford with children of her own.

Edward married Emma Elizabeth Elliot April 20, 1905 in Simcoe Ontario. He was 24 years old at the time of his marriage. Their first daughter Vera Elizabeth was born in 1906 in Ontario.

Ed & Emma migrated to the Springwater / Bushville area of Saskatchewan and were farmers. Their second daughter Mary Ellen, was born in 1910 in Saskatchewan. Both girls married and had families of their own. Ed and Emma retired to Victoria, British Columbia.
