Riverside man bound over for Idaho trial
POCATELLO, Idaho (AP) Kenneth D. Hovarter of Riverside has been bound over for trial in 6th District Court on a charge of first degree murder in the death of 15-year-old Shelley Nelson of Montpelier. Hovarter, 21, also faces charges of first-degree kidnap and a felony count of discharging a firearm in connection with the same incident.
The decision to bind him over came late Monday following a preliminary hearing which had begun last Wednesday. The Nelson child w as found shot on June 14 in a canyon east of Montpelier. Hovarter was being held in the Bannock County Jail pending trial. He was moved from Bear Lake County because of concerns for his safety.

POCATELLO, Idaho (AP) The murder trial of Kenneth D. Hovarter of Riverside, charged with killing a 6-year-old Montpelier girl, has been moved to Bannock County after a judge accepted a defense motion for a change of venue. In a court session last week, Hovarter, 21, entered an innocent plea to the three felony charges against him first degree murder, first degree kidnap and the use of a firearm in the commission of a felony. The body of the victim, Shelley Nelson, was found east of Montpelier June 14. The child had been shot.

Kenneth Dean Hovarter, 21, an 18-year resident of San Bernardino, died Thursday in Pocatello, Idaho. He was a motel manager.
Survivors include his mother, Vera Hovarter of San Bernardino; two brothers, Dean and John, also of San Bernardino; and three sisters, Betty Ontiveras of Tucson, Ariz., Nada Webb of Riverside and Kathleen Plough of Montpelier, Idaho.
Graveside services are scheduled for 2:30 p.m. Wednesday in Rialto Park Cemetery. Friends may call at the Mark B. Shaw Memorial Chapel after noon today.
