At the age of 25 he was working as a farmer, he enlisted in the Confederate State Army on the 9 Sept 1861 in Rowan County, NC. He was Enlisted into Company D, North Carolina 34th Infantry Regiment on 25 Oct 1861, he was then promoted to Full 1st Sergent on 15 Feb 1862, Full Captain on 07 Sept 1862 and then to Full Lt on 15 Jul 1862.
He possibly was married to Agnes L. Kilpatrick. There is a marriage record dated as married October 10, 1866, Rowan County, N.C.
On November 19, 1915, Mooresville, Iredell County, N.C., Carmi Kilpatrick McNeely/McNeily, still married, died at the age of 79 years, 4 months, and 22 days.
