Walter A. Treichel, of Horton, Michigan, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family, on Saturday, May 26, 2018. He was born on July 31, 1938 to Walter and Gladys (Hannah) Treichel, who preceded him in passing. Walt married the love of his life, Barbara (Pennington), on June 20, 1958 and she survives him. Walt has been a part of the Hanover-Horton area for 60 years. He owned the Walt's Marathon Station, Pine Hill Lake Marina and he worked for the school as transportation supervisor. He has enjoyed being part of the Hanover Horton Area Lions club and also at the District level for many years. He was most proud of the Lions Leo Club where he has served as Advisor, since its inception 4 1/2 years ago. Walt belonged to local Pigeon Racing Clubs, volunteered at the Hanover Food Bank and enjoyed researching genealogy. Walt attended the Beacon Church and Hanover Baptist Church and enjoyed spending many Saturdays nights at The Gospel Barn in Hillsdale. In addition to his wife, Walt was blessed with children, Cheryl (Kevin) Schantz, Wayne Treichel, Tami (Chuck) Miles, Chet Treichel, 11 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren, brother, Gary Treichel (Nancy Clark) and sister Barbara (Bill) Jones. A celebration of Walt's life will be held at Hillside United Methodist Church (6100 Folks Road, Horton, MI 49246) on Friday, June 1, 2018 beginning at 11:00 A.M. Interment will take place in the Horton Cemetery, at 2:00 P.M. The family will receive friends for visitation at the Hampton Funeral Home in Hanover on Thursday, May 31, 2018 from 2-4 and 6-8 P.M. They will also receive friends for visitation at the church, on Friday, from 10:00 A.M. until the time of the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may made to the Hanover Horton Leo Club, Hanover Horton Area Lions Club, The Gospel Barn or another charity of your choice.
