Derek Ryan Risner, 17, of Lee's Summit. Our beloved son went to spend his 17th birthday with Jesus in Heaven on August 14, 2007. Funeral services will be Saturday, August 18, 2007, at 10 a.m., at the First Baptist Church of Raytown, with a burial to follow in the Lee's Summit Cemetery. A visitation will be held Friday evening from 6-8 p.m. at the Langsford Funeral Home in Lee's Summit. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to UMKC-IHD, which can be left with the funeral home to be forwarded to the ACED program. Derek is survived by his father, Jeff and stepmother, Jackie Risner; his mother, Kristen Bruns and stepfather Dennis; four brothers and sisters, Ian Risner (4), Stefanie Risner (5), Dustin Bruns (17), and Megan Bruns (20); paternal grandparents, Jim and Gloria Risner of Lee's Summit, and maternal grandparents Kathy Walker of Shawnee, Kan., and Dan and Linda Casper of Tonganoxie, Kan. Before moving to Lee's Summit North High School as Varsity Offensive Guard #73, Derek played football for Ray-Pec. He was an honor roll student who played both basketball and football and helped with the ACED mentally and physically handicapped fishing program at James A. Reed. Derek loved to go hunting and fishing with his Grandpa Jim, and wouldn't leave his fishing hole, "sweet spot" until he caught his limit.
Arrangements are by Langsford Funeral Home, 115 SW 3rd St., Lee's Summit, MO 64063, (816) 524-3700.
