Ernestine Ann "Granny" (Miles) Overbey, 83 widow of Lacy R. Overbey of 505 Marquis Street, passed away Thursday, (September 11, 2008) at her residence.
Mrs. Overbey was born on July 24, 1925 in Buffalo Junction, Mecklenburg County, Virginia, a daughter of the late Joseph M. and Mary Elizabeth (Briggs) Miles.
Ernestine was a member of the Nelson Baptist Church and was retired from the Western State Hospital as a time keeper. She enjoyed gardening, quilting, working with her flowers that she so loved to grow and especially her children and grandchildren who made her smile with just their presence.
In addition to her husband and parents, Mrs. Overbey was preceded in death by two brothers, Clarence B. Miles and Claude W. "Buddy" Miles and a son-in-law, Lyle Thomas Price.
Mrs. Overbey is survived by three sons and daughters-in-law; Gerald L. and Bonnie Overbey of Staunton, Patrick L. and Brenda Overbey of Stuarts Draft and H. Leroy and Pamela Overbey of Nelson; three daughters and two sons-in-law, Betsy O. Price with whom she made her home, Kathy O. and Melvin Keeton of Buffalo Junction and Hazel O. and Bobby Miller of Bullock, N.C.; a brother, Mosby Thomas Miles of South Boston; twenty-six grandchildren and thirty-two great-grandchildren. In addition to her immediate, Mrs. Overbey is survived by a special friend Lucy H. Smith and six nieces.
A celebration of her life will be conducted 6:00 p.m. Sunday, (September 14, 2008) in the Coffman Funeral Home Chapel by the Rev. Harry R. Moore. The family will receive friends following the service.
The body will be taken to the Watkins, Cooper and Lyon Funeral Home in Clarksville, (Mecklenburg County) Virginia where the family will receive friends Monday evening from 7 – 8:30 p.m.
In keeping with "Granny's" wishes, only her family will be present for her burial.
