Per obituary, Ms. Emily Menard died at her home Sunday morning after an eighteen months illness from the infirmities of old age.

Mrs. Emily Briggs Menard was born on March 6, 1824, in Elkhart Grove, Logan County, Ill. She was the daughter of Benjamin Briggs, who moved there from Kentucky in the early days of the country's history. The family came here in 1825. Mr. Briggs was one of the first white men in this county. He purchased and settled in Elm Grove township on the land now owned by the Ropps and Gerbers.

The deceased was the widow of the late Pierre Menard to whom she was married in 1849, and who was first Lieutenant Governor in the state of Illinois.
