Janet Dolores (Fisher) Alley, 85, of Martinsville, passed peacefully from her earthly life after a courageous battle with cancer on Tuesday, May 5th, 2020 at the Grand Valley Healthcare Center in Martinsville. Janet’s life began on Sunday, April 7, 1935 in Monroe County, Indiana. She was one of four children born to the late Harry Fisher Jr. and Julia L. (Long) Fisher.
Janet spent most all her life in Morgan County, where she was raised, attended school, worked and raised her family. She graduated from Martinsville High School with the class of 1953 and on January 27, 1956 she married Chester L. Alley. She and Chester were blessed with three children, two grandchildren, sixty years of marriage and countless memories.
Janet worked at Morgan County REMC for many years as a billing clerk, though her heart and primary focus was being a wife, mother, and grandmother, as well as, an exceptional homemaker. Janet was beyond proud of her family and took great pride and pleasure in assisting her husband on their family farm.
Those left behind to cherish Janet’s memory and legacy include her daughter, Susan Pulliam of Indianapolis; two sons, Daniel L. Alley of Martinsville and Mark (wife, Carey) Alley of Martinsville; her beloved grandchildren, Mark Alley Jr. (wife, Audrey) and Emmey Alley; sister, Virginia Dee Underwood of Bloomington; and brother, Norman (wife, Geraldine) Fisher of Martinsville.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Chester Alley on March 27, 2016; and one brother, Delbert Lee Fisher.
Family and friends are invited to attend a graveside service celebrating Janet’s life on Saturday, May 9th beginning at 11:00 am in Olive Cemetery in Paragon. Those in attendance are required to exercise social distancing and encouraged to wear face masks to help suppress COVID-19.
Janet’s final arrangements have been entrusted to Neal & Summers Funeral and Cremation Center, Martinsville.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society in Janet’s memory.
