Coy Dale Coffman, Jr., age 65, of Wake Village, Texas, passed away on April 26, 2020.

Mr. Coffman was born on July 30, 1954, in Biloxi, Mississippi to Coy Dale Coffman, Sr. and Barbara Mae Dugan.

He is preceded in death by his parents.

Coy served in the US Army Military Police at Ft. Riley, Kansas, he was a US Army CID Special Agent in various locations including Red River Army Depot, investigated War crimes in Desert Storm, Security Detail for various Senators and military officials including Senator Bob Dole and General Norman Shwarzkopf; he received his associate's degree from Northeastern Oklahoma College and received his Bachelor's degree from Northeastern State University; he was a Tulsa Police officer, Criminal Justice Professor at Eastern Oklahoma State College, and he worked as a correctional officer in the Telford Unit in New Boston. He was a loving husband, father, granddad, and brother. Mr. Coffman served his Lord, family, and his country.

Survivors include his wife, Debbie Coffman, of Wake Village, Texas; a son, Coy Dale Coffman, III of Tulsa, Oklahoma; two stepchildren, Phillip Kesslar of Longview, Texas and Karen Renae Willis of Clairemore, Oklahoma; two grandchildren, Coy Dale Coffman, IV, Margarite Sue Coffman; five siblings, Scott Coffman of Vinita, Oklahoma, Neil Coffman of Afton, Oklahoma, Ray Coffman of Grove, Oklahoma, Sheri Tipton of Grove, Oklahoma, and Bobby Coffman of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. He was the God-Grandfather of MaKayla Shani King.

COVID-19 in TDCJ - Correctional Officer for Telford in New Boston, Texas

65-year-old Coy D. Coffman Jr’s death is currently under investigation. Coffman was a nine-year veteran Correctional Officer who last worked April 5, 2020 at the Telford Unit in New Boston. On April 14, 2020 he began suffering symptoms consistent with COVID-19 and was tested the next day. On April 17th, he was admitted to a local hospital in Texarkana due to possible complications from COVID-19. Coffman’s test returned positive on April 19th. Several days later his condition began deteriorating and sadly Coffman passed away yesterday evening.

“The COVID-19 virus has changed our state and our agency forever, but no one can imagine the impact to the Coffman family who has lost someone so close,” said Bryan Collier Executive Director of the Texas Department of Criminal Justice. “The thoughts and prayers of the TDCJ family are with those close to Officer Coffman. He died in the service of all Texans.”Age 65
