Ransom D. Phelps, was found on the sidewalk near the European hotel Saturday evening, insensible on account of a stroke of paralysis. He died at two o'clock this morning, aged sixty years. mr. Phelps was a carpenter by trade, in the employ of Green & Inman.

Mr. Phelps was born at Jefferson Prairie, Ill., February 25, 1839, and moved to Wisconisn when quite young, making his home at Darlington. From there he removed to Janesville about nine years ago. He married Miss Laura Fessenden at Darlington, December 23, 1863, by whom he has had five children, only two of whom survive him. He served in the army as a member of Company G., Fiftieth Regiment, Wisconsin Vol. He united with the Baptist church at Darlington in 1870. Mr. Phelps has been more or less an invalid for the past three years. In his death his friends and neighbors lose a valued and respected friend.

The funeral services will be held at Darlington Wednesday at 10 am. A prayer service will be held at the home, No. 51 Washington street at 8:30 Tuesday morning.
