Mary was the daughter of Albert Barnett and Catherine (Hellerman) Barnett, died age 6.

Likely she was named after her grandmother Mary (Hummel) Barnett, and also her great grandmother Mary (Seifritz) Hummel, who is buried in this same cemetery.
The former was the model for "Aunt Sissy" and the latter the model for "Mary Rommely" in Betty Smith's novel "A Tree Grows in Brooklyn."
