Stone Funeral Escort Selected From ’89 Class
Members of the Grass Valley High School class of 1889, the last class taught by the late Marion P. Stone in Grass Valley, before he left for Sacramento and Berkeley to reside, acted as escort to the remains at yesterday’s funeral services. These men were M. J. Brock, James Sampson, Will Williams, Frank Steele, Fred M. Mills and F. F. Cassidy.
Services for the veteran city educator were held at the Holmes-Hooper Home yesterday afternoon at 2 o’clock under the auspices of Madison lodge No. 23, F. and A. M. Judge George L. Jones presided as Master, and was assisted by John S. Corey as chaplain.
Masonic honors were also accorded at the place of interment in Greenwood cemetery.
Stone, who was a native of this city leaving in 1889 for Sacramento, passed away early this week at the Jones Memorial Hospital, within the same block of the old Stone home, not the Butler residence.
Family members who were either in this city of came up for the services were: Mrs. M. P. Stone, widow; Mr. and Mrs. Oscar S. Fisher and Jack Fisher, Woodland, Mrs. Fisher is a sister; Mr. and Mrs. Myrvin Stone, Sacramento, Mr. Stone being a nephew; Will F. Stone, Walnut Grove, son; Misses Marian, Helen and Rose Stone, Berkeley, daughters; Mr. and Mrs. A. L. Price, Berkeley, Mrs. Price is a daughter, and Hugh J. Baldwin, San Diego, brother-in-law.
