Alice was the daughter of James Lindsay Balmer of Roxburghshire, Scotland, who immigrated to St. Clair County, Michigan, in 1850, and was employed as a bookkeeper for a lumber company, among other capacities. Her mother was Nancy Eliza Westbrook, granddaughter of St. Clair County, Michigan, pioneer and War of 1812 hero, Andrew Westbrook. Alice married George M. Conner August 15, 1888, in Detroit, Michigan.

"Mrs. Alice B. Conner, 66, widow of George M. Conner, of 175 Crary Avenue, died early this morning at a sanitarium in Boston, Massachusetts, following an illness of about four months. The deceased was born in Detroit, Michigan, and had made her home in Mount Vernon for about ten years. She was active in the Christian Science Church in the city. Three sons, George R. Conner of Bronxville, Ralph A. and Donald W. Conner, both of Mount Vernon, and two sisters, Mrs. Florence B. Dunn, Detroit, and Mrs. T. J. Kelly, Minneapolis, survive. The funeral services will probably be held on Saturday in the mortuary of Burr Davis and Son and interment will be made in Kensico Cemetery." (Mount Vernon Daily Argus, Thursday, March 5, 1931)
