Jimmy Mitchell was a 1958 graduate of Winchester High School, Winchester, Kentucky and a retired Secret Service Agent.

James B. Mitchell "Mitch" "Jim" passed away on May 12, 2020. He was with his beloved companion Fern and left us peacefully in his sleep. Jim was born in Paris, KY in 1940 and grew up in Winchester, KY. He raised his family in Lake Forest, Il. before coming home to the south and settling in Charlotte, North Carolina.
He served in The Navy for two years before attending Eastern Kentucky University where he graduated with a Bachelor's Degree in Art. He went on become a U.S. Secret Service agent where he protected many U.S. Presidents, Senators, Congressmen, and Candidates along with their families. Later he worked for the Mecklenburg County Sheriff's Department and also had a short career in insurance working for Consolidated Planning.
He led a fascinating life with many great stories and much insight into the political world. He was a great athlete throughout the years, from swimming and diving in college, to playing tennis, and then becoming an avid golfer. He boasts a hole in one at MPCC and even built a tennis court in his back yard that was the center of many fond memories for all his friends and family. Anyone who met Jim would certainly remember his amazing sense of humor, which was anything but politically correct. There was not a problem he could not solve or a task he could not complete.
He was preceded in death by his brother Joe and tragically his two sons Blake and Tyler. His later years were all spent at his House on Lake Wylie with his treasured dog Fern. On his scooter or his pontoon boat, he and Fern were inseparable, and no one ever saw Jim without her. He is finally reunited with his boys which is ultimately where he would want to be.
He is survived by his daughter Devon (Evelyn) of Greensboro, NC his ex-wife Judy (Tom) of Incline Village, NV his Brother Bill (Arlene) of Virginia Beach,VA his sister-in-law Deedee of Conroe,TX and his nieces and nephews Melanie, Chris, Robin, Bill, Robert and Amanda.
Due to the Covid virus, we will be postponing any remembrance service until the summer at which time we will send out an announcement. In lieu of flowers please donate to the Michael J. Fox foundation for Parkinsons. Michaeljfox.org
