Floyd was my father. He was called Jerry as a child. It separated him from his father who was also Floyd. Jerry or Gerry was short for Geronimo, one of his favorite characters. His parents lived in Wilmington, Los Angeles, California. He was an only child and grew up with two wonderful role models. His first and only marriage to my mother lasted less than 6 years and my mother left him for another man. She divorced him 1 April 1954 from the state of Idaho. By then he had dropped off my brother and I with his parents. I was culled off and sent to live with my maternal grandmother.
After that time, hurt and emotionally bruised he picked up his life and moved on, but had to compartmentalize that part of his life. In his last years he found a champion who helped him in his end of life planning and in fact took him in under his own roof for at least 3 months. His champion however never heard Floyd utter the names of his 2 children. I want to thank him for welcoming the call from me that he had waited for in the years before and after his death. I want to thank him also for being not only a professional but a friend to my father.
