Carolyn Mae (Piltz) Abel was born on February 6, 1925, in Fraser Township, rural Martin County, MN, the daughter of George and Caroline “Carrie” (Klussman) Piltz. She began her education attending school at District #14 country school and graduated from Fairmont High School with the class of 1944.
Carolyn began her working career by key punching data into IBM Computers. She would go on to work for Sears and Montgomery Wards before working as a library aid and lunch aide for the Welcome School District in addition to being a hard working farm wife and a loving mother.
On October 26, 1951, Carolyn was united in marriage to Walter “Wally” Abel at St. Paul’s Evangelical and Reformed Church in Welcome, MN. Together the couple would make their home in rural Fraser township and years later purchased a farm in Rolling Green Township.
Carolyn was very active in Ladies Aide and the Birthday Club. She had a strong faith and trusted Jesus as her savior and served him by helping and serving others often putting the needs of others in front of her own. Carolyn was a prayer warrior for her family, friends, and all those who needed prayers lifted up for them. She enjoyed listening to KJLY Radio and loved spending time with her family.
Left to cherish her memory is her husband, Walter “Wally” Abel of Fairmont, MN; foster son, Boyd (Cindy) Schuler of Charleston, SC; daughter, Donna Hunt and special friend, Gale Bantz of Amery, WI; son, Greg (Mary) Abel of Fairmont, MN; grandchildren, Jennifer Schuler, Emily (Kevin) Dunaway, Tyler Hunt, Caleb (Aimee) Abel, Jon Abel, Isaac (Jayme) Abel, and Ben Abel; great-grandchildren, Cheyenne and Dakota Abel, Hayes Abel, and James, Jack, and Lauren Larson; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Arnie Abel, Edwin (Marlene) Abel, Howard (Eileen) Abel, Norman Abel, Evelyn Altman, and Joan Riegel; as well as many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
Carolyn was preceded in death by her parents, George and Carrie Piltz; sisters, Jean Piltz, Betty Parsons, Lois Handevidt; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Dick Parson, Bud Handevidt, Sue Abel, Rita “Boots” Abel, Faye and Irv Abel, and John Riegel; and nephews, Michael Abel Jeff Abel and Larry Handevidt.
The family requests memorials be left in Carolyn’s name to KJLY Radio in Blue Earth, MN.
