CLINTON, Md. – Stanley Ormand Gilbert, 91, of Clinton, Md., died Sunday, Aug. 25, 2002 at a nursing home in Clinton, where he had resided the past nine months.
Funeral services ill be held at 12:30 p.m. Thursday at Fellowship Baptist Church, Upper Marlboro, Md.
Burial will be in Cedar Hill Cemetery, Suitland, Md. Pallbearers will be David, Stephen, Daniel and Andrew Best and Robert Sanders, All grandsons; and Daniel Goldsmith, foster son.
Visitation was today at Lee Funeral Home, Inc., Clinton, Md.
Born March 17, 1911, in Iowa, he was the son of Clarence and May Belle (Taylor) Gilbert. He married Annie Jewell Piercy in Elkhorn, Wis. She died Aug. 14, 1990 after over 50 years of marriage.
Surviving are a son, James S. (Nancy) Gilbert of Front Royal, Va.; a foster son, Daniel J. (Janine) Goldsmith of Riverside, Calif.; a daughter, Patricia E. (Mrs. Robert) Best of Brandywine, Md., with whom he made his home for seven years; a foster daughter, Susan E. (Clayton) Sanders of Orange, Va.; 13 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; a brother, Richard (Jean) Gilbert, Vienna, Va.; sisters, Gloria Powers of Streator, Marcella (Mrs. William) Piercy of Fairbury, and Roma Jean Harrison of Frazier Park, Calif.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Wayne and Robert Gilbert; and sisters, Muriel Campbell and Clarice Moon.
He earned a law degree from George Washington University, Washington, D.C.
He was retired from the Naval Oceanolgraphics Office in Suitland, Md.
He was a member of the Fellowship Baptist Church of Upper Marlboro, Md.
