Civil War Union Soldier. He enlisted on 20 August 1861 at Trenton, Wayne County, Michigan; mustered in on 26 August 1861 when he was 38 years of age. Serving faithfully as a trooper in Company K, 1st Michigan Cavalry, Corporal Edwin H. Babcock was felled with a dangerous wound to his left leg on July 3, 1863 at Gettysburg, Pennsylvania. His last days were spent as a patient in the Mower Hospital in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. There on October 19, 1863, Babcock succumbed to his Gettysburg wounds having a second catastrophic hemorrhage.
