Cornelius Vanderbilt Crane was an American explorer and philanthropist. He was the son of Richard Teller Crane, Jr., and Florence Crane, and grandson of Richard Teller Crane, founder of the Crane Company, an American industrial products company based in Stamford, Connecticut. He was married in 1929 to Cathalene Isabella Parker Browning and adopted her daughter from her previous marriage, Cathalene Parker Browning, the mother of American actor, comedian, screenwriter, and producer, Cornelius Crane "Chevy" Chase. They were divorced in 1940 and he subsequently remarried, in 1955, Minescule (Miné) Sawahara in a Shinto ceremony in Japan.
