Astrid Lee Mendes, peacefully Thursday, May 14, 2020. She was the loving wife of the late Joseph C. Mendes.

Born in Victoria Peak, Hong Kong, she was the daughter of the late Joseph William and Maria Christina (Ozorio) Lee.

Astrid loved to learn, as evidenced by the diversity of her careers. She was a teacher in Hong Kong, a stewardess for Pan American Airlines, a banker at Bank Newport, and a realtor during her retirement. Astrid impacted the lives of so many. Beyond the joy of spending time with her family, Astrid cherished her time spent traveling, especially visiting her family and friends around the globe and Walt Disney World. She also loved languages, as she could also speak Cantonese and Portuguese. Astrid loved to learn and enjoyed her time spent in class learning sign language and Tai Chi, as well as teaching herself Mandarin. Astrid was a member of two clubs in Hong Kong: Uniao Macenese Americana and The Lusitano Club, and she was a member of the Portuguese American Club in Jamestown. She also enjoyed her monthly lady's groups including the BB's "The Bank Buddies" and dim sum with her Happy Moms group. She also adored her yorkies, especially Mickey.
Relatives and friends are invited to a visitation from 4-7 pm on Monday, May 18, 2020 in the Fagan-Quinn Funeral Home, 825 Boston Neck Road, North Kingstown. Vehicles will be organized in line accordingly, and visitors will be allowed to enter in groups of two at a time. Please wear face coverings in accordance with the State of Rhode Island mandate.

Her Funeral Liturgy will be privately held on Tuesday, May 19, 2020 in the Fagan-Quinn Funeral Home. A private committal service will follow in St. Mark Cemetery, Jamestown. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at a date to be announced.
