Ralph Davis, Longtime Teacher

Ralph J. Davis, long time resident and teacher at Livonia Central School, passed away on Monday, May 12, 1980, following a long illness. He was born in Jamestown Dec. 21, 1910, the son of Frederick and Lucy Greene Davis.

Following his graduation from Avon Central School, Geneseo Normal School and Columbia University, he taught for a short time in Ionia, and later at South Lima. He joined Livonia Central School's teaching staff in 1940 when the district was centralized, and taught there 34 years until his retirement in 1974, at which time the district honored him by renaming the high school the "Ralph J. Davis High School."

He married Beulah Durkee in 1937, and lived in Avon for several years before moving to Livonia in 1948. They had five children, including twins Chris and Mark, both of whom died in their college years: Chris of a kidney disease and Mark in an automobile accident.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son, Michael, an attorney in Falls Church, Va.; two daughters, Mrs. Robert (Julie) Goldstein of Livonia, and Mrs. Joseph (Leslie) Januzzi of Mt. Vernon; his mother. Mrs. Lucy Davis of Avon; one sister. Mrs. June O'Dea of Lima; one brother, Albert J. Davis of St. Petersburg, Fla.; seven grandchildren; nieces and nephews.

Calling hours were scheduled for Tuesday evening and 'Wednesday afternoon and evening, at the Brown-Drowne Funeral Home, 21 Big Tree St., Livonia: with Mass of Christian Burial today, Thursday, at 11 am at St. Joseph's Church, Livonia where he was a long-time member followed by interment at St. Michael's cemetery. Friends wishing may make contributions to the Livonia Fire Dept. Ambulance Fund.
