Norma Bever, known to many as “Grandma B”, found her way home to Heaven the morning of May 19th, 2020, at 100 years old. Norma was born November 21st, 1919 to Arlow and Mildred (Leak) Aves in Sebewa Township. She was the second of four sisters, following older sister Elaine Austin and followed by sisters Christine Towner and Marjorie Swiler. Norma married Marshall Bever on October 12, 1940, who was later killed in battle in WWII. Norma never remarried. Norma is reunited with her parents, all three sisters, and husband, but leaves a large family. Norma and Marshall had two daughters, Barbara Teichmann and Arlene Sandborn, Seven grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, and eight great-great grandchildren. Norma lived her life by sharing everything she had. She was an active member of the Sebewa Baptist Church, Ionia and Hastings 4-H for over 40 years and serving anyone who walked through her front door. She was happiest when she was laughing about the past, watching the birds and swaying Hollyhocks through the window, being surrounded by friends and family, and sharing an iced tea or her famous apple pie squares. Grandma B did not fear death, maybe it is because she will never fully die. The sunshine in her soul created a light in everyone she met, a light that no darkness could defeat. One could not fit the century of Norma’s life into a novel, let alone a short obituary. Please help celebrate Norma Bever’s life with her family at a later date. Special thanks to Emily Sandborn for putting together the obituary for grandma.
