LT. KENNETH CULLEN
Army Posthumously Awards Medals To Viet War Victim
A victim of the Vietnam War, Lt. Kenneth A. Cullen, son of Mr. and Mrs. Stephen G. Cullen of 438 Bunkers Cove Road, was posthumously awarded the Bronze Star and Purple Heart by the U. S. Army during ceremonies Sunday at the local National Guard Armory. Lt Cullen was killed in South Vietnam in April during a landing zone clearing operation. His parents were on hand to receive the medals. Also, Mayor J. W. Wilcox, representing the city, and Maj. Billy R. Fletcher, active army advisor for the local National Guard Unit, were present. A military formation was formed during the ceremonies by members of 261st Engineering Battalion of the local guard unit. The late lieutenant began his military service here with the National Guard in 1962. He received his commission some three years later shortly before volunteering for duty in Vietnam.
