Mr. Abel died Friday, Feb. 19, 1993, in an Oskaloosa nursing home.
He was born March 21, 1902, at Grantville, the son of John E. and Ida May Williams Abel.
He was a lifelong resident of the Perry area.
Mr. Abel retired from the Kansas Highway Commission in 1967 after 28 years of service. He also was a former Jefferson County undersheriff and had farmed.
He was a member of the Perry United Methodist Church and was a 50-year member of the Perry Masonic Lodge No. 415 A.F. & A.M., and the Royal Arch Masons of Oskaloosa.
He married Ada M. King on Feb. 14, 1927, at Perry. She died May 30, 1987.
Survivors include a son, James L., Perry; two daughters, Marlene Dewey, Perry, and Dorothy Evans, Lodi, Calif.; a brother, John E., and a sister, Catherine Parnell, both of Topeka; three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
