Mr. Austin was a teacher and administrator in the Schenectady, Bronxville and Ellington, CT schools for 39 years.
He held a BS in Early Childhood Ed. from SUNY New Paltz and a MEd. from Union College. He did additional graduate work at various SUNY colleges, including Albany, Oneonta and Plattsburgh, as well as doctoral studies at Columbia and Syracuse universities.
An early education specialist, he started the Pre-Kindergarten programs at Linton and Mt. Pleasant high schools, as well as heading Schenectady’s NYS Experimental Pre-K. He also directed Head Start from 1965-67. He later became principal of Grout Park and Fulton schools, while serving on several daycare and pre-school advisory committees.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 64 years, Mildred, and loving children, Jeffrey (Lori) and Jeanne.
