Passed away peacefully into God's loving arms on May 15, 2020. Lorraine was the devoted wife of Morris "Moe" Abate and later of Charles "Chuck" Hunt (both deceased); loving mother of the late Mario "Bud" (Ella) Abate and Ralph (Barbara) Abate. She is survived by five grandchildren, Lisa (Alan) Draper, Mark Abate, Scott (Ashley) Abate, Annette Faber, and Michele Abate as well as five great-grandchildren, Olivia, Jack, Chase, Sarah and Jill. Lorraine was born in Buffalo, but spent her high school years in Detroit. Upon returning to Buffalo she obtained a job assembling airplane engine cowlings at the Curtis Wright Plant during WWII where she met her first husband, Morris Abate. Upon conclusion of the war, she became a devoted housewife until her husband's untimely death in 1960. She then returned to school at Fosdick Masten, where she earned her Licensed Practical Nurse certificate. Her first assignment was Children's Hospital, where she served in the sick babies ward. After a year, Lorraine moved to E. J. Meyer Hospital (the predecessor to ECMC), where she served on several general medical wards before she specialized as an inhalation therapist, all the while raising her two sons. She waited until the boys were on their way before marrying Chuck Hunt, who passed away in 1992. Later, she became friends with "Bob" Beiswanger until he passed after many years of companionship. Lorraine retired from ECMC at age 62 and then returned to volunteer at the ECMC Gift Shop for an additional 22 years. Lorraine enjoyed travel, cards, bingo, gardening, cooking and beer. She was a founding officer and member to the ECMC Retirees Association where she organized many of the early travel excursions. She remained an active member until her recent illness. Lorraine was also an officer and member of the Democratic Women's Club of Buffalo during the Jimmy Griffin era as well as a member of several "Old Timers" clubs. She was inducted into the "Rosie the Riveter" Association, honoring the women who worked in the defense industry during WWII. To her friends and family, Lorraine was the personification of "America's Greatest Generation" and will be sorely missed by all. A Memorial Service will be scheduled at a later date. Lorraine has donated her body to the UB Jacobs School of Medicine, and upon completion, interment will be private at Mount Cavalry Cemetery
