"Robert A. "Bob" Turner, a lifelong resident of Woburn, passed away quietly on Tuesday evening at the U. Mass Memorial Medical Center in Worcester after a brief illness. The beloved husband of the late Emily A. (Thorne) Turner, he was eighty-eight years of age.
Born in Woburn, "Bob", as he was always known, was the son of the late Wallace and Blanche (Blackburn) Turner. Raised and educated in Woburn, Bob was a graduate of Woburn High School, Class of 35. As a young boy he was a member of the choir at the United Methodist Church.
Following high school, he was employed as a machinist by Monsanto in Everett where he worked his entire career, spanning forty-three years. He retired in 1981.
In 1941, Mr. Turners employment was interrupted by his enlistment into the Army during World War II, where he was a member of the 9th Infantry Division, 34th Field Artillery. One year later, prior to his deployment overseas, Bob married his beloved wife Emily, to whom he was devoted for sixty years. Following the war, he returned to Woburn where the Turners raised their three children.
As a family they enjoyed traveling, often vacationing at Lake Winniepesaukee and Weirs Beach.
Throughout his adult life, Bob was very involved with the 9th Infantry Division, attending reunions frequently. In 1992, he and his wife returned to Fort Bragg to celebrate both their fiftieth wedding anniversary and a military reunion celebration.
Bob was an extremely spiritual man with a strong belief system. He had a passion for reading and loved spending time in his flower and vegetable gardens.
In October of 2004, he relocated to Radius House in Millbury. A popular resident with the staff and other residents, Bob took part in all of the various activities and especially enjoyed the musical entertainment.
In addition to his wife Emily, who passed away in 2003, Mr. Turner was predeceased by his sister, Charlotte Cole."
