Larry D. Edson, 84, of Parsons, died at 5:46 a.m., Monday, June 1, 2020 in the emergency room of Labette Health in Parsons.

He was born October 24, 1935 in Farnam, Nebraska to Charles R. and Madeline (Hudson) Edson. He lived in several places in Nebraska during his early years and graduated from high school in Fremont, Nebraska, where he was active in scouting and attained the rank of Eagle Scout. He also attended a business school in Fremont. He served in the United States Naval Reserves several years.

Larry started a career with Montgomery Ward Stores in his early adult years and he worked in Iowa and Overland Park before coming to Parsons in 1972 to be manager of the Parsons store. After retirement from Montgomery Ward Co. he worked several years at the Big Brutus tourist site and also operated Back Door Printing for eight years at his home.

He regularly attended St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, was a member of the Audubon Society and was a licensed radio operator.

He and Mayetta Engquist were married in 1957 at Fremont, Nebraska and later divorced.

On January 31, 1982 he and Regina M. (Richard) Babcock were married at the former First United Methodist Church in Parsons and later renewed their marriage vows at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church.

Surviving is his wife, Regina, of the home; a son, Brian Edson (Violetta) of St. Louis, Missouri; three step-sons, Don Babcock (Judy), Richard Babcock (Sandy) and Ernest Babcock, all of Parsons; two step-daughters, Cathy Swearengin (Roger) of Grove, Oklahoma and Linda Beavers (Art) of Wichita; 12 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren; a sister Pat Stafford (Don) of Fremont, Nebraska.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Vicki and a granddaughter Andrea.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m., Friday, at the Carson-Wall Funeral Home, with Fr. Curtis Robertson officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Olivet Cemetery.

Friends may call at the funeral home on Thursday until 8 p.m., to sign the register. Memorials are suggested to St. Vincent dePaul Society and may be left at or sent to the funeral home at Box 942, Parsons, KS 67357. Online messages may be left at www.wallfuneralservices.com.
