Yatsin was born July 12, 1898 in Russia to Nicholas and Francis (Bushol) Berger. Nicholas and Francis were German immigrants through Russia. They immigrated to the United States when Yatsin was three years old. They homesteaded in Oliver County near Rosebud. Francis died in childbirth and is buried at Rosebud. Nicholas later married Kathryn Dunehauer.
On November 8, 1921, Yatsin married Mary Mosbrucker, who was born in Mandan, North Dakota on September 16, 1902. They farmed around the Center area.
They had seven children: Rufus, July 23, 1922; Rose, September 10, 1924; Joseph, July 6, 1927; John, October 4, 1928; Raymond, January 27, 1931; Agnes, July 8, 1935 and Yatsin, February 9, 1944.
On April 12, 1944, Rose married Peter Schneider. They have six children; Geraldine, Richard, James, Douglas, Mark and Wanda. Since 1961 they live in Bismarck, North Dakota.
On June 23, 1944, Rufus married Phyllis Hosek. They have six children; Janice, Darreld, Kevin, Joyce, Cheryl and Renita.
November 26, 1951, Joseph married Beatrice Cordes. They have two children; Renée deceased at the age of three and Jolene.
On October 20, 1952, John married Helen Yantzer. They have three children; Rodney, Timothy and Mary Ann.
On April 9, 1958, Raymond married Luella Yantzer. They have three children; Bruce, Randy and Pamela.
June 10, 1954, Agnes married Edward Wetzel. They farm near Glen Ullin, North Dakota. They have one daughter Sheila.
On September 3, 1960 Yatsin Jr. married Donna Letzring. Rhey have two sons, Dean and Dale.
Mary died October 27, 1961. Yatsin married Anna Yantzer of Center on August 3, 1962.
Yatsin Sr. died October 1, 1979 and son, Joseph, died two years later, February 6, 1981.
There are 22 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren.
