Granville was the son of Matthias/Mathias & Elizabeth (Cole/Coil/Cail) Burkett and the husband of Ellen Cook/Cooke. He died at age 54 from Gastritis. The 1900 Census notes that they had been married 31 years, 3 children born, 2 were living. Ellen died in Worchester Mass. on 21 Oct 1908. (Researcher note: I have not found her burial place yet as her death certificate does not indicate cemetery.)

His father was born in Hagerstown, MD., and his mother was born in Harrison County, OH.

He was the father of Jesse Burkett #10173, one of the best baseball players the world has ever seen. As noted in Granville's obituary, Jesse was a member of the famous Cleveland Spiders, in the National league, and was three times champion batter of the league and idol of the Cleveland fans during the nineties. He also played with St. Louis and went from there to Worcester Mass. featuring the franchise in that city in the New England league, and his club won the pennant four successive seasons.

Survivors included his invalid wife Ellen, sons Charles & Jesse, a sister Mrs. Frank Goodwin and two brothers Ase (could this be Ezra?) & Alek Burkett.
