Frances is the daughter of Zachariah "Rial" and Elizabeth A. Floyd Bryant. She is the only child of Zachariah born to him with his 2nd wife. All his other children were with his first wife to my current knowledge. Frances had 9 half siblings and they are:

Zachariah Ryle, Jr. Bryant 1818 – 1891
John Bryant 1820 –
David Bryant 1822 – 1873
Giles H. Bryant 1827 – 1914
Mary Ann Bryant Bishop 1829 – 1886
Sandal Bryant 1832 –
George Washington Bryant 1834 – 1919
Amanda D. Bryant Fullerton 1830 – 1880
Ellen Jane Bryant Bradford 1839 – 1922

These children are part Cherokee inherited from their father who is half Cherokee and is listed on the Lucy Ward Bryant Cherokee monument located in Poplar Springs Cemetery, Gibson Co., TN.

On 2 Jan 1857, Frances married Dr. Thomas Durham Newhouse in Gibson Co., TN. She had 3 children with Thomas and they are:

William Newhouse 1858 –
Zachariah Bryant Newhouse 1859 – 1930
Lura Cunningham Newhouse 1861 – 1930

Thomas died in 1861 when Lura, his new baby girl, was just about 8 months old leaving Frances with 3 small children. She was very young but managed for a couple of years until she married again.

On 10 Sep 1863, Frances married Dr. John W. Allen in Gibson Co., TN. They had 4 sons and 1 daughter. Those children are:

Ney C. "Nathan" Allen 1865 – 1914
Virgil V. Allen 1868 –
Ina Lu Allen 1870 – 1921
Don L. Allen 1872 – 1951
Samuel G. Allen 1875 –

The last record I have of Frances and John is the 1880 Census. They were living in Lauderdale Co., TN, where he was a doctor. At that time, his youngest brother Dr. Jabez Allen was living with them and working with John.

Thanks to Jody Gladden here on Findagrave who established this memorial, we now know John and Frances moved their family to Drew Co., AR. John's parents and several of his family members are buried here. I'm very grateful to Jody for filling in the gap of that ever missing 1890 Census. So many of us have lost family due to that missing record group. Frances is my 2nd great grand aunt.

Rest and be at peace aunt Frances and know you are not forgotten....
