Captain Olney was a son of James and Hallelujah (Brown) Olney, she a daughter of Daniel Brown, son of Chad Brown. Their son, John Olney Waterman, married Sally Franklin, a beauty and a belle, daughter of Captain Asa Franklin, a captain in the French and Indian War, and an officer of the Revolution. They were the parents of George Waterman, the martyr 'Forty Niner', father of Lieutenant Franklin A. Waterman.
