"The remains of Horace F. Liscom, who died suddenly of heart disease at the home of his son in Fond du Lac, Wis., were brought to Mendota Monday July 24, and laid to rest in Restland cemetery. Horace F. Liscom was born in Wilmington, Vermont, October 4th, 1831. When about 12 years old he moved to Bennington with his parents and from there they went west, settling near Mendota, Ill., where for many years he made his home. During the period of the Civil War he faithfully served his country. Sept. 19, 1864 he was united in marriage to Miss Almeda Schofield of Freeport, Ill. Eight children were born to them, Will of Fond du Lac, Wis.; Frank of Fort Dodge, Iowa; Minnie, wife of H.E. Ward of Chicago, Ill.; Harry, Robert and Hiram, also of Chicago; Gertrude, wife of C.F. Sleeper of Evanston, Ill., and John of Libertyville, Ill. Mrs. Liscom passed away Feb. 12, 1885 Mr. Liscom remained in Mendota until about sixteen years ago, when he moved to Chicago. All his children survive him, also a sister, Mrs. Lucy Hanson of Aurora, Ill., and a brother, W.A. Liscom of Rook Island, Ill." Mendota (Ill.) Sun. July 31, 1905
