Joseph A. Desch, resident of Springfield for fifty years, died at 1 p.m., June 12, 1936, at his home, 401 West Reynolds street. He was 78 years old. Death followed two years of failing health.
Mr. Desch was born in Beryen [sic?], Germany, and came to this country and to Springfield fifty years ago.
For a number of years, he was employed by the Reisch Brewing Co., retiring sixteen years ago.
He was a member of SS. Peter & Paul's church since coming to Springfield, and also held membership in the Holy Name society and the St. Paul society.
Surviving are his wife, Catherine [sic?]; three sons, Chris and Carl, of Springfield; and Frank, of Portland, Ore.; four daughters, Mrs. Otto Reichert, Mrs. Otis Buchanan, Mrs. Frank Layendecker and Mrs. Raymond May, all of Springfield; three sisters in Germany; seventeen grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
Funeral was held at the residence and at SS. Peter & Paul church.
Interment in Calvary.

Miss Catherine Weis [sic] and Joseph Desch were married Wednesday, Feb. 9, 1882 in Belryen, Germany and came to Springfield in 1884.
Ten children were born to them, seven of whom are living. They are: Frank, of Portland, Ore.; Carl and Chris Desch, Mrs. Otto Reichert, Mrs. O.R. Buchanan, Mrs. Frank Layendecker and Mrs. Raymond May, all of Springfield. There are seventeen grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
